Smith<br \/>Pacific Northwest National Laboratory<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dr. Smith is Director of Proteomics and Chief Scientist for the Biological Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He is broadly interested in developing and advancing separations and mass spectrometry capabilities for increasing the capabilities of proteomics and \u2018pan-omics\u2019 in biological and clinical research. \u00a0His earlier research included the first development and applications of both high resolution LC separations and high resolution\/high accuracy MS for proteomics.\u00a0 One present focus of his research is in using fast ion mobility separations based upon novel Structures for Lossless Ion Manipulations to enhance mass spectrometric capabilities, and in also facilitating other more complex gas phase ion manipulations.\u00a0 Dr. Smith is the Director of Proteomics Research at PNNL, the Director of the NIH Biomedical Technology Proteomics Research Resource for Integrative Biology, as well as the PI for DOE\u2019s Pan-omics Program and the NCI Clinical Proteomics Tumor Analysis Center at PNNL. He has presented more than 300 invited or plenary lectures at national and international scientific meetings, and is the author or co-author of more than 1000 peer reviewed ublications. Dr. Smith holds 57 patents and has been the recipient of eleven R&amp;D 100 Awards, the 2003 American Chemical Society Award for Analytical Chemistry, the 2009 HUPO Discovery Award in Proteomics Sciences, and the 2013 ASMS Distinguished Contribution in Mass Spectrometry Award.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Smith is Director of Proteomics and Chief Scientist for the Biological Sciences Division at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
