Exploring New Frontiers in Neurochemical Detection
Along the Gut-Brain-Immune Axis
Dr. Ashley Ross, University of Cincinnati

Ashley Ross is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati and faculty in the Neuroscience Graduate Program. She earned her Ph.D. in 2014 from the University of Virginia under the guidance of Dr. Jill Venton. She completed her post-doctoral training in Dr. Rebecca Pompano’s lab at the University of Virginia where she was an American Association of Immunology Careers in Immunology Fellow. She began her independent career at UC in 2017. Her research interests are diverse including fundamental investigations into the mechanisms of neurochemical adsorption at electrode surfaces, studies of the mechanisms of neuroprotection during brain ischemia, and she has pioneered research measuring subsecond neuro-immune communication in the immune system. Ashley was recently named a “Top 40 under 40” in the Analytical Scientists, received an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and was awarded the Emerging Investigator Lectureship Award by the Analyst. Her lab has received funding from the NSF CAREER, the NIH, and from the RCSA.  She currently serves on the Advisory Board for the Analyst, RSC Chemical Reviews, a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of Electroanalytical Chemistry, and is a member of the scientific advisory board for the International Society of Monitoring Molecules in Neuroscience.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Anastasia Andrianova is a Collaborations Program Manager for GC and GC/MS in the Gas Phase Division of Agilent Technologies, located in Wilmington, Delaware. She received a Ph.D. in analytical chemistry from the University of North Dakota. She also holds an MBA degree in Strategic Leadership from the University of Delaware. Anastasia has been at Agilent Technologies since 2018. She has authored or co-authored over 30 journal articles and application notes, and 2 patents in the field of analytical chemistry, focusing on chromatography and mass spectrometry. Anastasia is currently working on driving customer collaborations across GC and GC/MS with a focus on food and environmental analysis.

Erin Ennis Ballinger, PhD, is an E2E ISC NPI Project Manager at FMC, leveraging a diverse background in research, development, and operations to drive the successful commercialization of new product innovations within the agriculture industry. She earned her PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Drexel University in 2016 under the guidance of Joe Foley. Her research focused on method development for capillary electrophoresis and stochastic modeling of peak capacity and separation success in sequential elution liquid chromatography.
She joined a contract lab in Newark, Delaware in 2016 and FMC in 2018 as a Global R&D Analytical Scientist and Analytical Technical Expert. There, she focused on method development, GLP validation and testing, and product renewal defense for the company’s global portfolio. Her career then progressed into the Operations organization in 2021 as an Active Ingredient Master Planner, where she managed supply planning and oversaw new product commercial launches in collaboration with manufacturing and marketing. She took on additional opportunities during that time frame, leading a Gender Equity global focus group project, business transformation projects, and completing a Certificate in Planning and Inventory Management (CPIM) from APICS and a Certificate in Management Essentials from Harvard Business School. In 2025 she transitioned to her current role, where she is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end project management related to new product introductions within FMC’s technical center, ensuring efficient collaboration and timely execution to bring pipeline products to market.

Monica Joshi is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at West Chester University, where she has taught in the undergraduate forensic chemistry program since 2010. She is currently a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the Materials Measurement Laboratory. Her research interests lie in the application of chromatography, mass spectrometry, and spectroscopic techniques to improve the detection and identification of illicit drugs and gunshot residue. She enjoys teaching and collaborative learning at all levels. Last year, she taught kindergarten and adult bible studies. This year, she is looking forward to teaching first grade, continuing to participate in research projects, and leading small group discussions on a variety of topics.
