The 2019 Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition will be held on November 18-20th at the Crowne Plaza Princeton Conference Center in Plainsboro, NJ. Registration is now open so make sure you take advantage of our early registration rate and register before October 15th. The preliminary technical program is included in this publication so please take time to look it over. I am sure you will find many outstanding presentations that will be of interest.

I am excited to announce this year that EAS has established a reduced rate for full-time college students to enroll in our short courses. Consistent with our mission to educate the community about analytical chemistry we have created this opportunity for students to further sustain our field and educate our younger analytical chemists. This rate is only available until October 15th so please bring this to the attention of your students. In addition, we encourage you to submit a poster presentation by September 1st to be considered for the program. The electronic poster presentations were very popular last year so we have expanded the poster presentation sessions this year.

The theme for EAS 2019 is Enhancing Analytical Chemistry with Sustainable Solutions. EAS continues the Going Green theme to lead the way to focus the innovation and chemical solutions for our global sustainability. Our 2019 Program will feature our Keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Olesik, Dow Professor and Chair of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department of The Ohio State University. Professor Olesik will speak on enhancing our sustainable practices in analytical chemistry. A mixer will follow. Our plenary lecture will be delivered on Wednesday morning by the 2019 EAS Awardee for Outstanding Achievements in the Fields of Analytical Chemistry, Distinguished Professor Joel Harris of the University of Utah. In addition, Inspector David Bowers of the United States Postal Service will be speaking at a breakfast session on the Amerithrax investigation. On Wedneday morning, the Women’s Chemist Committee is sponsoring a breakfast lecture.  Dr. Caroline McGregor, Merck & Co., will speak on “From Lab to Leadership: The Journey of an Analytical Chemist.”  We hope you will join us to hear these special lectures.

If you have attended our symposium the last two years you are aware of how wonderful it is the exhibits are integrated with the program and short courses under one roof at the Crowne Plaza Princeton Conference Center. If you were not able to attend the last two years we hope you will come this year to experience how great a venue it is! The exhibitors will have on display their most recent state-of-the-art instrumentation, products and services for all three days of the symposium. So you can browse the exhibition to learn about the newest of technologies that may solve your practical solutions for your workplace. We will continue with our highly successful tech tour and our very popular green tour which will allow you to interact with the participating exhibitors that are helping enhance our analytical chemistry future with sustainable solutions.
